The upcoming All Saints’ Day is a time when many people visit cemeteries to tidy up the graves of their loved ones. During this special period, the Małopolska police appeal for caution. Pickpockets and thieves are just waiting for a moment of our inattention. Let us remember that staying vigilant and following basic safety rules can protect us from theft.
If you plan to drive to the cemetery in your own car, do not leave valuables, such as cell phones or handbags, in visible places. If you have to leave them in the vehicle, hide them in the trunk. Remember that the value of a stolen item is often not equal to the cost of repairing the vehicle.
When going to the cemetery, try not to take large sums of money. It is worth preparing the exact amount of cash and keeping it in a different place than your wallet and documents. When paying in a store or at a cemetery stand, avoid showing how much money you have on you.
It is also recommended to avoid crowds and to approach new people with limited trust, who show excessive interest in our affairs or an intrusive desire to help.
When tidying up graves, let’s not leave purses, money bags, documents, payment cards or house keys on monuments or benches, even for a moment. By making it easier for thieves to work, we expose ourselves to theft, which can end not only in the loss of valuable items, but also in theft in our home, when criminals use our payment cards or take out loans in our name. Let’s be vigilant and take care of our property!
