In layman terms, Digital Marketing is promoting your brand (product or services) via medium of digital technologies. Digital Marketing or internet marketing helps you to reach out to audiences that are available on internet  using laptops, desktops, tablets, smartphones or any other gadget connected to internet.Using digital marketing as a strategy and Internet as a medium, one can target their prospects and market their respective brand. In Digital Marketing, there are again several ways/strategies one can use to harness the process. Following are the methodologies  that fall under Digital Marketing which can be specifically used product wise.

1) Search Engine Optimization – Also known as SEO, is used to improve website rankings on search engines. Search Engine here means the search engine biz. yahoo, google, rediff, etc..Optimization refers to the continuous process of improving the website design in accordance to the rules of particular search engine to gain highest ranking for a search query. 2) Search Engine Marketing – Also known as SEM is used to create Advertisements on search engine that will be displayed on the search engine upon specific query. CPC, PPC, Google Adwords, CPM, CPE, etc..are the sub modules that cambine and form SEM.

3) Social Media Optimization / Social Media Marketing – Also known as SMO, as the name itself suggests using social media platforms to market the brand. Social Media has proven to be best channel for reaching or engaging prospects. SMO is used Digital Marketing for promoting any offers that exists with the product and thereby gaining maximum conversions. Social Media Page of a particular company talks about the company profile, its protfolio, its engaged audience and the prevailing discounts.

4) Affiliate Marketing: Promotion of a product via affiliates is called Affiliate Marketing. The process is to tie up with affiliates, fixing up a commission strategy and then marketing on the affiliates sites. This form of digital marketing helps a company to spread awareness about your product and stand higher against competitor.

5) E-mail Marketing: Email Marketing is that form of Digital Marketing that allows you to reach million of customers at one click. This technique is used to be in frequent touch with your customers by sending newletters, any announcement of the product, new offers, etc and the compelling reason to use E-mail Marketing is Return on Investment (ROI). According to the Direct Marketing Association, email marketing brings in about $40 for every $1 you spend. That’s one of the highest ROIs for any type of marketing.

6) Google Analytics: Google Analytics is the heart of Digital Marketing. Its used to derive results of your campaigns and make effective business decision basis the results obtained. Serves as a platform to measure ROIs and track and report webiste traffic.

7) Online Reputation Management: Once your brand/product/company has made online presence, the reputation has to be managed in order to reach out to dissatisfied customers or thank satisfied customers. After all, online presence is built to directly interact with the client.

In a nutshell, Digital Marketing is important to be implement in today’s scenario as it gives an edge against competitors.
